TRICLIP™, the Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge is the only TEER device intentionally designed for the tricuspid valve, to safely maximize tricuspid regurgitation (TR) reduction and achieve sustained clinically significant improvement in the quality of life of patients with TR.
TriClip™ TEER System
- TriClip™ is a first-of-its-kind, minimally invasive clip-based device that is specifically designed for the tricuspid valve, which is often referred to as the “forgotten valve” due to historically limited treatment options. It's a therapy for patients with a leaky tricuspid valve, a condition known as tricuspid regurgitation (TR).
- TriClip is a non-surgical option that provides a sustained reduction of TR with significant improvement in clinical outcomes and proven safety for patients who often aren't responding to medical therapy and are not surgical candidates.
- The device is delivered to the heart through the femoral vein in the leg and works by clipping together a portion of the leaflets of the tricuspid valve to reduce the backflow of blood.
- TriClip leverages the technology and robust body of evidence from Abbott’s leading MitraClip device – the safe, effective and minimally invasive option to repair leaky mitral valves (or mitral regurgitation), which occurs on the left/opposite side of the heart.
- TriClip is specifically designed for the tricuspid valve’s complex anatomy and has a specialized delivery system engineered for navigating the right side of the heart.
Tricuspid Regurgitation
- Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is a condition in which the valve between the two right heart chambers (right ventricle and right atrium) doesn’t close properly, resulting in a backward flow of blood into the right atrium of the heart.
- The condition typically impacts older individuals who have multiple co-morbidities, making open-heart surgery a high-risk procedure and resulting in many people going undertreated.
- The consequences of leaving TR unaddressed can be substantial – people often develop other conditions such as atrial fibrillation, and heart failure that can, ultimately, result in death.
- In general, the condition has been underdiagnosed and undertreated due to the disease being clinically underestimated.
