Three Technologies. Profound Impact!

Three important structural heart options; TAVR, MitraClip® and Watchman, are available at Springhill to patients with diseased heart valves or certain patients with atrial fibrillation who are unable to take blood thinners.

Mitral Valve Prolapse Care

mitraclip

At Springhill, you’ll find experts in treating mitral valve prolapse. Also called mitral regurgitation, it happens when the heart’s mitral valve has an unusual shape. Most people with mitral valve prolapse do well with cardiac rehabilitation. For those who need further treatment, we offer MitraClip, a noninvasive procedure that repairs the valve.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)

Edwards Sapien

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a minimally invasive procedure to treat aortic stenosis. Cardiologists at Springhill were the first in Mobile to offer it.

Watchman

Watchman

WATCHMAN is a one-time, minimally invasive procedure for people with atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem (also known as non-valvular AFib) who need an alternative to blood thinners.  Non-valvular Afib can mean a lifetime of blood thinners. It can also mean a lifetime of worry about issues like bleeds and falls. More than 100,000 people have left blood thinners behind with WATCHMAN.

Other Treatments

Springhill admits weekly patients with signs and symptoms of Deep Vein Thrombosis, generally blood clots in the leg veins, or Pulmonary Embolism or blood clots in the lungs. In most cases these patients are treated with clot dissolving medicines but if the clot burden is high and the patient severely symptomatic ClotTriever and FlowTriever are used to remove a large amount of the clot burden often giving almost immediate symptom relief to the patient and reducing the work of the heart. This is an important therapy and our physicians are well trained in its use.

ClotTriever

ClotTriever is a mechanical thrombectomy device for treating deep vein thrombosis (DVT).  DVT occurs when a blood clot (thrombus) forms in a deep vein(s) in your body, usually the legs.  ClotTriever removes large clots from large vessels for treatment of DVT for immediate symptom relief in a single session without the need for specialized thrombolysis drugs or an ICU stay.

FlowTriever

The FlowTriever is the first mechanical thrombectomy device to treat pulmonary embolism (PE).  It is used to remove large clots from the large vessels for immediate symptom relief, restoring blood flow and relieving right heart strain without the need for specialized thrombolysis drugs or an ICU stay.
