Deborah Atkins, Employee of the Year

Cited for her every-day priceless employee values, Deborah Atkins, RN, was recognized as Springhill Medical Center’s Employee of the Year during hospital week.

During the week-long celebration of hospital employees in May, Springhill presented Atkins with various prizes, including a preferred employee parking spot and a plaque for this annual award.  She has been with the hospital since 1990 and currently works on the telemetry unit.

Each year employees are asked to nominate a co-worker who they feel best demonstrates the PRICELESS values that Springhill promotes.

“Debbie is the kind of employee a hospital dreams about,” said President and CEO Mr. Jeff St. Clair.  “She started her career as a pharmacy tech, worked her way through nursing school, and then honored us by staying at Springhill as an RN in several capacities for many years.  It is rare to find such dedication to one place through multiple careers.  She has always been an employee and patient favorite.  Her optimism, smile, and obvious caring attitude clearly affect all of us around her in a positive way.  We are blessed to have her.”

There are several reasons she chose Springhill, but above all else, “I love the family environment here at Springhill Medical,” she explains. “Everyone is always supportive and there for you.  It is truly an honor to work here at Springhill Medical.  My family has always supported me in my nursing career, as well.  In fact, my son, Johnathan, followed in my footsteps and is also a registered nurse.”

Born and raised in Mobile, Atkins has always admired nurses and has always enjoyed helping others.

“I believe that attitude gets you through each day. If you come in with a good, positive attitude, you will have a good day.  And knowing that you have people to support you will get you through no matter what.”

In addition to Atkins, this year’s Employee of the Year nominees were: Dwanna Graham from The Birthing Suites and Ethan Corley from the Cardiac Care Unit.
