Springhill Medical Center announced today that Valetta Evans, RN, has been selected to receive the 2018 Nurse of the Year Award.
Valletta has worked in the Nursery since 1985 — more than three decades!! She is loved by all of our moms who deliver at Springhill for her kind spirit, her special way of easing a new parent’s stress, and for her love of babies.
A co-worker who nominated her wrote, “We love Valletta for all those reasons and more. She is always willing to come in to help even for just a few hours to catch up. She works well with the physicians and the staff. Her patience and calmness in a difficult delivery help keep everyone focused and communicating well. Valetta transitioned as new programs have been put in place, which may have initially been outside of her comfort zone, but she stepped up and never complained about an assignment. She is always looking out for what is best for the Nursery. Valletta is the prime example of what Springhill wants and needs in a nurse!”
The 2018 Nurses Week was celebrated at Springhill Medical Center May 6-12, and a recognition reception was held on May 10 where Valletta and other nurses were presented with their awards.
“What a tremendous compliment her co-workers have paid Valletta!” said Chief Nursing Executive Paul Read, RN. “She is a well-deserving professional who has been with us for a very long time. Her work here is cited to us frequently in letters and compliments we receive from former patients. Nurses Week gives us a great opportunity to recognize nurses like Valletta for the example they set and the contributions they have made to our hospital and the community.”
