SMC's Celebration of Healing

Posted On: June 11, 2025

SMC received special recognition for its lengthy partnership with expectant mothers and TelaGen for birth tissue donations.

TelaGen recognizes SMC for birth tissue donations.Representatives from TelaGen celebrated the hospital for its outstanding collaboration for these important donations.  These selfless gifts have impacted the lives of more than 65,000 patients across the nation. Because SMC was one of the firsts to bring this program to our area a decade ago, more than 2,500 donations were made possible here.

Through the program, healthy placentas can be used to create medical products for wound healing and surgical repair. A single donation could help 50 different patients who may be suffering from burns, diabetic ulcers, eye injuries or wounds that haven't healed.

In addition, TelaGen makes charitable donations to specified charities, including the SMH Auxiliary, for every birthing tissue donation.  The company has made in excess of $2.5 million in such donations nationwide.
